Elk 116 images Created 24 Oct 2012
This gallery contains photos of Rocky Mountain Elk (Cervus elaphus) from Colorado and Wyoming. Early cultures from across North America prized the "wapiti" as a great food source. Its hide was used for robes, bedding, and shelter materials. Its antlers were cut into needles and awls. A bull elk with antlers that have six points on each side is called a "royal." A bull with seven points on each side is a "imperial." And a "monarch" is a bull with eight points on each side.
