Bristlecone Pine (Pinus aristata). This seed cone or female cone are ovid and dark in color. The tip of each scale bears an incurved "bristle" hence the name bristlecone. Cones and needles are often tipped by dropes of resin. A characteristic that disinguishes the Colorado bristlecone from the bristlecone found in Sierra Nevada and the Great Basin Area.
